About Me!

Sarah Valente is a mixed media artist that primarily explores the art historical themes of the abject and uncanny through a feminine lens. She graduated from The College of New Jersey in 2021, with a BFA in painting and sculpture, and a minor in graphic design. Valente studied conservation and restoration techniques at an independent firm for a few years following. She is currently exploring framing and curatorial experience.

"I am drawn to materiality, and I combine textures and materials with painting to create sculptural elements around the themes that most resonate with me. My work is mainly centered around feminine, animal, and bodily images. I use a fluctuation of added media to echo a conceptual crossing of boundaries into the physical. The psychological concept of a boundary is important to my work. I find that I am constantly evaluating boundaries in different contexts, and my artwork is a reflection of that."
